MINUTES for MARCH 21, 2005   

MINUTESThe minutes for Feb. 20, 2005 were accepted as written. 

TREASURES REPORT:  Kim gave the treasurer’s report.  The balance was $32,463.17.  A significant portion has been earmarked for clean-ups.

 GUEST SPEAKER:  Our guest speaker was Dick Bowman, past president of the Madison County Historical Society.  He gave a presentation on the history of Mounds Park.  He also offered the WRW a display area in the building that has been donated to the Madison County Historical Society. 

 WEB SITE:  Beckii Logan will remain the webmaster with Judy and Kim as helpers.  She will train both Judy and Kim. 

 PROJECTS: 

  • Alan/Brad Mini Clean-up:  They will have a mini clean-up the week of national river clean-up.  The boy scouts may assist.  The clean-up will start at 9AM at Edgewater Park on May 14th with May 21st being a rain date.  The adopted section of the river will be included.  The possibility of this being a community service project was discussed.  There is a contest for the best pictures.   There is a creative writing competition for students through the National River Clean-up program.  The topic is trash…where does it come from?  Sheryl will talk to councilors to see if this could count as a community service project. 
  • May 21st Muncie will have its Clean and Beautiful program.  Jay Dowd and Jim Reece want to meet with the WRW for advice on how to have their first ever river-clean-up. 
  • Education Day:  should be with the YMCA.  There are 85 – 105 kids participating in YMCA programs.  A Committee will meet to discuss details.  The meeting will be March 28th at Sheryl’s house.  A report will be made to the WRW at the April meeting.
  • Home Show:  There was discussion on how to represent the WRW at the home show on March 22 – 24th.  
  • T-Shirts:  Helen Ween displayed the shirts and matching hats for this year.  The WRW can order polo shirts with logo from Ram Graphics for a discount.
  • Senate Bill 279:  Sheryl gave a detailed account of Senator Beverly Gard’s bill that was withdrawn and revised to be resubmitted.  A motion was made and carried to have Sheryl write a letter on behalf of the White River Watchers voicing the organizations concerns.
  • Crist Blassaras: recounted the White River Rescue’s successful efforts to clean up 9 land based dumps including Moss Island. 

A  motion was made, seconded and passed to adjourn.
