MINUTES JULY 19, 2004

Kim was absent, Dick Fetty, Vise President filled in.  The treasurer was also absent. 

Minutes: A motion was made, seconded and passed to approve the minutes for the meeting of May 17, 2004.

Education:

*      Jake’s Day will be Aug. 21, 2004.  Details were discussed.  The event will be held at the Fall Creek Valley Conservation Club.  Volunteers will need to be there at 8:30AM

*      There will be an open house at the new Boy’s and Girl’s Club facility on July 31, 2004 from 11AM – 3PM.  We will have the go fish presentation and the Enviroscape.  There was a motion made, seconded and approved for the organization to make the presentations.  A motion was made, seconded and approved to spend $50 on prizes. 

*      It was suggested that we buy the interactive CD Wet Your Waders for teachers to whom we give a presentation. 

Water Quality:  We will have to send the equipment back to the company for recalibration and updating.  Chad Pigg suggested we partner with the city of Anderson.  The City of Anderson would provide chemical data in return for using the hydro lab and the volunteers would provide macroinvertebrate sampling data.  The City of
Anderson would also provide e-coli data.  A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept Chad’s offer and partner with the City of Anderson. 

WRCAC Report:  John Johnson discussed detail of several proposals brought to the committee including a proposal for bank stabilization of the Grandview banks.

Fun Day:  This day will be Aug. 14, 2004.  Details were discussed.  We will meet at 9AM and put into the water at 9:30AM

September clean-up:  Preliminary details for the day were discussed. 

Misc.:  Earl Harris, the producer of Judy O’Bannon’s show would like to do a segment on the White River Watchers.  He will profile the Moss Island Clean-up.  It will be filmed at 9AM at Moss Island. 

New Business:

*      It was suggested that local students could make bird houses, squirrel houses, wood duck houses, etc. and put them up at Moss Island. 

*      The WRW needs to support other conservation efforts.

A motion was made, seconded and approved to adjourn.
