WEDNESDAY Jan. 19, 2005

The White River Watchers would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to Ginny Evans who presented a check as a donation from Charity’s Angels for $100.      

Minutes:  The minutes for the meeting of Nov. 15, 2005 were accepted as written.  There were no minutes from the Dec. 20, 2004 meeting since no business was conducted.

Treasurer’s Report:  There was $8,163.12 in the treasury.

Budget:  A motion was made, seconded and accepted to accept the 2005 budget as amended.

Committees:

  • Budget:  Helen Ween will head the budget committee.
  • Mini clean-ups:  Alan Kilburn and Brad childes will head this committee.
  • Earth day:  Kim Rodgers-Hatfield will head this committee.
  • Education:  Sheryl Myers and Judy DeLury will co-chair this committee.
  • Water quality: No chair was determined
  • Clean-up:  No chair was determined.
  • Fun day:  Alan Kilburn and Jim will head this committee
  • Newsletter:  Kim will continue to do the newsletter.

Projects:

  • Jerry Shelton will have a booth at the home show and has invited us to help man the booth and set up a display.  A motion was made, seconded and passed to give Jerry $25 toward the expense of the booth.
  • It was voted to accept Crist Blassaros and Bill Evans as board members.
  • River Fest:  Sheryl will head the committee.  Tentatively this is being planned in a manner similar to the Jake’s Day format with stations for youth involvement.  This is to replace our presence at Jake’s day.  There will be a planning meeting in Feb.  .
  • We will have two major clean-ups in 2005
  1. September10,2005: We will clean the White River from Raible Ave. to john’s place
  2. June 11, 2005:  We will clean the White River from Timberline to Mounds. 
  • The organization will encourage groups to participate in the Adopt-a-River program.
  • Conservation Day is Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005.  Registration is free.  It is being hosted by the Nature Conservancy.

There was a motion made, seconded and accepted to adjourn

After adjournment:

  • Crist Blassaros gave a lesson on the medicinal uses of Verbascum Thapsus (common Mullein) from the Scrophuriaceae family which is the Snapdragon family.
  • Sheryl Myers spoke on the need for individual political activism from the members of the White River Watchers.
