MINUTES FEB 16, 2004

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PHIL!!!

FILM: We watched the film “White River 2000”.  The film will be for sale.  This was a “black eye” for Anderson.  Because of this incident many improvements have been made, unfortunately many more improvements are needed.

MINUTES:  A motion was made, seconded and passed to approve the minutes as written.

TREASURER’S REPORT:  As of Jan 31, 2004 there was $2,972.50.  This did not include the latest deposit which brought the total to $10,122.50.  There was a motion made, seconded and passed to approve the treasurer’s report.

ACS/DNR MEETING:  The meeting will be at Tanglewood on March 3, 2004.  Registration begins at 8AM.  A motion was made, seconded and passed to spend up to $100 for supplies for the teachers.

STREAM BANK STABILIZATION PROJECT:  There are funds available through Hoosier Heartland for bank stabilization.  This includes banks along White River, upstream, and along or adjacent to tributaries. This also includes the Kilbuck watershed.

Perhaps we could target Grandview.  Maybe a special meeting will be needed.

MOSS ISLAND:  The clean-up has begun.  There have been 3 dumpsters, over 1,000 tires.  Crews will return after the snow melts.  The honeysuckle has been cut to ground level.  An herbicide will be used in the spring.  There is interest in putting in picnic tables.  The land may be deeded to the White River Watchers.

EDUCATION COMMITTEE:  There should be 30 boys and girls at the Wilson’s Boy’s Club on March 6, 2004.  Need volunteers to arrive at 9:15AM.  There was a motion made, seconded and carried to spend up to $200 for supplies.

Bruce Rhodes and Ray Walker want an actual fishing trip as part of a summer program.  This could be an outing, fishing clinic, nature walk or canoe safety clinic.  The Boys and Girls Club has the insurance and bus.

We should look into a river education program for home schooled students.

WATER QUALITY:  We need new chemicals and the hydro-lab recalibrated.  We have an increasing need for storage.

There will be a planting of trees and vegetation on the Price property.  Volunteers will be needed.

WELCOME

Terry and Margo Sink, (daughter Krista and son Shaun), will be renting the Conservation Club to start a canoe livery and bait shop.  They will have about 25 canoes and a kayak.  They have generously offered to donate canoes for any of our clean-ups.  They wondered about restocking the river with other animals beyond fish, such as snakes, amphibians, rodents, etc.

There was a motion made, seconded and carried to adjourn.
