17, 2006
Minutes: The minutes for the meeting of
June 19, 206 were approved as written
Treasurer’s Report: The treasurer’s
report was approved. There was $27,391.63 in the account.
Old Business:
Camp USA: Sheryl attempted to contact Mecca about the
proposed youth educational program, but Sheryl’s phone calls were
not returned.
Woodland Plantings: There was discussion about the
possibility of working with the soil and Water Conservation
District, the Natural resource Conservation Service (NRCS) and
possible schools to create an outdoor classroom.
Mini Clean-up: Kim will submit a report for the
Adopt-a-River program. Stories were told about the clean-up from
Edgewater to Madison Avenue. The team recovered about 30 tires.
Old Railroad Trestle: It may be necessary to deal
with the Railroad. The Railroad wants to close 3 crossings. The
City of Anderson may be able to negotiate to get the old trestle
removed or cleaned up so it isn’t a danger to the waterway and its
users.
Mallard Lake: The KCC will start a publicity/petition
campaign. The county commissioners will be coming to a KCC meeting.
Wetlands at Grandview: We should check into the
progress that has been made in the restoration and bank
stabilization.
New Business:
Fall Clean-up: The details of the fall clean-up were
discussed. The clean-up is scheduled for Sept 9, 2006. We will
meet at John Johnson’s. There should be a reconnaissance float. A
meeting was scheduled for Aug. 8, 2006 at 5PM.
Riverwatch with Anderson City Parks: It may be
possible to partner with the City of Anderson to do water quality
monitoring. It may be possible to include area schools.
