MINUTES
November 17, 2008
Minutes: The minutes for the meeting of
October 20, 2008 were approved.
Treasurer’s Report: There was
$12,538.11 in the checking account.
Old Business:
Alan suggested we submit an application for a
Community Foundation Grant to expand our clean-up effort.
Chanda Hyatt updated the WRW board members on the
current SWCD implementation grant. The SWCD is getting a steering
committee together. The date of the meeting is yet to be
announced.
Kevin suggested researching the possibility of
obtaining a grant to make a laminated folding map of the White River
as it passes through Madison County. The lamination would make it
water proof.. The map would be for education and outreach as well.
Mexico Rotary International offered a $7000 grant for
a project along the river. Kevin suggested work on the trail
system, possibly informational/interpretive signs along the river.
The Bell Foundation approved a grant for wetlands
restoration.
The fish kill documentary will be available next
year. It was suggested we do a power point possibly with the
Historical Society.
Judy, Sheryl, John, Alan and Crist will be on a
committee to design a poster for education and outreach.
Alan informed us the Christmas Celebration will be at
the Mounds State Park Multipurpose Room on December 15, 2008.
Chanda will sing. Bring a white elephant gift. The celebration
will be from 6PM to 8PM. Kim will organize. Alan will try to get a
steamer. .Judy will get the ham. Chanda will also bring a steamer.
Kim will bring pop. Crist will get water from Philippe. Brad has a
projector and Kevin will bring a laptop so we can have a slide show
during the Christmas Celebration. We discussed possible awards.
The MC Storm Water Quality Partnership public meeting
is
December 3, 2008 at 1PM
We could possibly have Shareen do a rain barrel
presentation in February.
The Upper White River Water group continues to develop
plans. One is on-line another is through a technical committee.
They are working on perennial plantings for rain gardens, urban
BMP’s, Agricultural BMP’s with on-line tool kits and educational
material.
New Business:
Election: It was determined we have a quorum.
A motion was made by Sheryl and seconded by John to accept the slate
as presented. The motion passed unanimously. The officers are as
follows: President Crist Blassaras; Vice President Kevin Kenyon;
Treasurer Kim Rodgers-Hatfield; Secretary Judy DeLury
June Clean-up: Bill Savage and Mayor Taylor
are interested in a clean-up along the Big Duck Creek as it runs
through Elwood. The clean-up would go through the urban area. We
could help fund organizations willing to sponsor a clean-up as well
as assist in the organizational aspects and encourage adopting
portions of the creek.
There is no proper oversight of new drainage projects
within the local government. To help we can attend public
hearings. The drainage board has taken over some responsibility
from the surveyor’s office.
We should encourage Madison County to take a proactive
stance on wind energy.
Suzanne said she needs to contact the new head of the
DOC for possible community work projects.
The trails that were to be re-seeded have not been
re-seeded.
