MINUTES
January 26, 2009
Welcome to all who attended our meeting for the
first time.
After introductions all around Chanda Hyatt
updated the WRW on the first SWCD steering committee meeting. The
next meeting is scheduled for Feb. 3d, 2009 at the East Main Street
Christian Church. The meeting begins at 6:30 PM in the community
room.
Minutes: The minutes for the meeting of
November 17, 2009 were approved.
Treasurer’s Report: There is $12,183.05
in the checking account. Kim is working on the 2009 budget. We
spent $394 less than were budgeted last year. Questions were asked
about the fish kill monies.
Old and New Business:
Crist suggested exploring the possibilities of having
a paid director of the WRW. He will talk to Kevin Hardy, the full
time executive director of the Friends of the White River. Kim had
several questions and wanted more information on how grants work
(worked) for the FOWR. Kevin Kenyon made a motion for Crist to
draft a model for a director’s position. Dick Fetty seconded the
motion. Steve Goodman will also make MS4 information available to
the WRW. After much discussion and requests for more background
information the motion passed.
Steve Goodman informed the WRW the City of Anderson
will donate $1000 for the WRW’s help in keeping the White River
clean. This also counts towards the City of Anderson’s MS4
obligations.
Representatives from the Anderson Wal-Mart attended
our meeting. They indicated that the local Wal-Mart wanted to get
more involved with the community and that the associates working for
them were to get more involved as well. They also have a grant
program available that the WRW could apply to. The WRW suggested
the local store consider adopting a river section. We could help
them with the process.
The White River Trail still has no erosion control
measures in place after 3 years. This may be an opportunity for WRW
to work with the parks department to correct the situation. Sheryl
indicated that estimates for planting came in too high. Steve
Goodman indicated the parks department had a long range planner
working on the problem. They were working with Phil Tevis. He said
he would have the long range planner speak at t he next meeting.
Sheryl said she had a group that wants to do a photo
display and possible mini-clean-up at 8 or 9A.M.
The clean-up in the fall is set tentatively for
September 12, 2009. There was discussion on not having a June
clean-up since it is rained out so often. It was suggested the WRW
could have another July River Fest.
A motion was made, seconded and passed to
adjourn. |
