Pictures by Harvey Riedel Harvey Riedel has generously given the White River Watchers permission to use pictures he took while celebrating our 10 year anniversary with us. His pictures reflect the day's events. The City of Anderson provided information on the past, present and future plans for the trail system. Mayor Kevin Smith was on hand to listen to citizens' comments and concerns. The Kilbuck Concerned Citizens Association was there to continue awareness of the nearly 30 year battle to prevent a landfill near Kilbuck Elementary and the Anderson airport. Of course, the White River Watchers were present with a pictorial history of the fish kill on the White River originating here in Madison County. Others took advantage of the perfect weather by renting canoes or kayaks from Canoe Country for a reduced fare and enjoyed one of Anderson's hidden treasures. Some of those in canoes opted to picked debris out of the river. See the story in the slideshow below. The canoes were put into the river underneath the Eisenhower Bridge that crosses Eighth Street. The last stop was at River Bend Park where Harvey found an old abandoned building and a woodpecker enjoying a snack.
Free DHTML scripts provided by I have come in contact with many people having just as many points of view from the very negative to the very positive. It's hard to believe those with the more negative points of view don't believe environmental awareness and stewardship is necessary or should be forced upon them! Harvey's pictures capture the self satisfaction gained from hard work that benefits not only the environment, but everyone connected to the river...and we are all connected to the river! This means even those with the most negative points of view have benefited from the efforts of those with the most positive points of view...you're welcome. Judy DeLury |
